Your questions answered

If you have a question, you may find the answer here.

I can’t type into the Reading papers2018-12-10T15:39:34+00:00

Some browsers don’t allow this. Google Chrome does. Others might. Better still, download the Reading papers to your computer and use Adobe Acrobat Reader to complete them.  This has two big advantages over using a browser.

1) You can save your work as you go, or at the end. Then you can check over it later and if you need to, email it to someone (your teacher or tutor for instance).

2) When you print the paper your answers will also print. If you try printing from a browser, even Google Chrome, only the original question paper prints, without all your hard work.

In the Workout test, the same question came up twice. Why?2018-10-19T18:00:42+01:00

The Workouts use questions chosen randomly from all of the other test questions. Occasionally the same question will come up more than once due to the random nature of selection.

I printed a Reading paper but none of my answers got printed2018-10-19T18:00:35+01:00

Instead of completing the paper in your browser, it’s better to download the Reading papers to your computer and use Adobe Reader to complete them.

My marks using the Workouts are much lower than in other tests. Why?2018-10-19T18:00:28+01:00

To ensure there is a big supply of different questions, the Workouts have loads more questions than you’re likely to have time to answer. So don’t worry if your percentage score is low. What’s important is that you improve your score with practice.

In the real test, you have a lot more time to answer the questions.

What aren’t the Reading papers marked online?2018-12-10T15:39:08+00:00

There is no simple right or wrong answer to many of the Reading paper questions; it still requires a trained marker to award marks.

The main advantage we offer for users of the Reading papers is that the answers can be typed in, instead of hand-written. This means the completed answer book may be printed off, saved, or emailed to someone for marking. It saves a lot of paper too. Also, some children prefer this way of working.

Use Adobe Acrobat Reader to complete the Reading papers.

Are all the questions the same as in the paper-based tests?2018-10-19T18:00:15+01:00

About 98% are identical; a few have had to be adapted. Every adapted questions tests the same knowledge as the original question.  Find out more here.

How can I type in answers that are fractions?2018-10-19T18:00:06+01:00

To enter a fractions such as five-eights, use the slash symbol as the divider.

e.g.

5/8

To enter an answer with a whole number part also such as ‘two and five-eights’, type a space between the whole number part and the fractional part.

e.g.

2 5/8

Why aren’t there more Workouts? I need more practice.2018-10-19T17:59:54+01:00

The Workouts contain a randomly selected list of questions, so each time you do a Workout you’ll get a different set of questions. Sometimes you’ll see a question you’ve seen before but it’s extremely unlikely you’ll get the same set of questions you’ve done before. So for more practice, take another Workout.

Where can I see the scores?2020-06-04T10:11:11+01:00

The website does not store the scores and answers given permanently, so we recommend that when your child has completed a test, they print the results.

There is a printer icon at the bottom of each test page. You can print the summary page with just the scores, or if you click the button ‘View questions and answers’, then you can print the whole test with answers and correct answers shown.
To save paper, instead of printing you could create a PDF file instead. Your browser will give you the option to print to a PDF file. This can be saved on your computer and emailed if you wish.
Is SATS QUIZ totally free?2024-09-08T15:35:15+01:00

Yes! And, as long as we can cover costs, it will remain so. To help out there, you can Buy Me a Coffee!

But don’t worry if you can’t afford to. It’s fine to keep on using it for free.
